Valentino Rossi (Urbino, 16 febbraio 1979) è un motociclista italiano, sette volte campione del mondo e considerato sin da giovanissimo uno dei più grandi piloti di moto di tutti i tempi.
è l'unico pilota della storia ad aver vinto il titolo mondiale in 4 classi differenti: 125 (1), 250 (1), 500 (1) e MotoGP (4), la classe che dal 2002 ha sostituito proprio la 500 (e del quale Rossi è finora l'unico vincitore, avendo vinto tutte e quattro i mondiali dalla sua istituzione), ed il secondo, dopo l'americano Eddie Lawson, a vincere il titolo per due anni consecutivi con due marche diverse (Honda e Yamaha).

Biografia Figlio d'arte, suo padre Graziano Rossi ha corso nel motomondiale negli anni '70, cresciuto a Tavullia (PU), Valentino inizia a prendere confidenza con i motori fin da piccolo, mostrando subito il suo talento. Nel 1995, a soli sedici anni diventa campione italiano della classe 125, l'anno successivo esordisce nel campionato del mondo (sempre nella 125), ed ottiene la sua prima vittoria nel Gran Premio della Repubblica Ceca a Brno, dopo aver conquistato anche la sua prima pole position. Nel 1997 sempre nella 125, ottiene il suo primo titolo mondiale, correndo con l'Aprilia. L'anno seguente, sempre su Aprilia, passa alla classe 250. Dopo un primo anno di ambientamento, nel 1999 ottiene anche in questa classe il titolo iridato. Il 2000 è l'anno del passaggio alla classe regina, la classe 500, e del cambio di moto. Firma, infatti, un contratto con la Honda. Anche nella 500 il primo anno è di studio, ma nel 2001, ultima stagione prima della sostituzione di questa classe con la MotoGP, arriva il terzo titolo iridato. Sempre nel 2001, Rossi si cimenta nella prova più importante del Mondiale Endurance per le case giapponesi: la 8 ore di Suzuka, imponendosi assieme all'allora compagno di marca (e ufficiale Superbike Honda) Colin Edwards. L'introduzione della nuova classe, nella quale tutti i piloti sono "esordienti", non costituisce problemi per Valentino, che riesce a imporsi fin dalla prima edizione (2002) e a bissare il titolo iridato l'anno successivo (2003). Nella stagione 2004 Rossi passa alla Yamaha; inizialmente la mossa solleva qualche perplessita' perchè la nuova marca è giudicata tecnicamente inferiore alla Honda, nell'arco della stagione precedente ha infatti ottenuto solo un terzo posto. Valentino raccoglie comunque la sfida e porta nel nuovo team, oltre al suo talento, alcuni elementi chiave della sua vecchia squadra, come per esempio l'esperto capotecnico australiano e suo grande amico Jeremy Burgess. Il risultato è una moto nettamente migliorata, anche se ancora inferiore alla Honda, che Valentino riesce però a portare alla vittoria nel motomondiale 2004, a dodici anni di distanza dall'ultimo titolo di un pilota Yamaha, l'americano Wayne Rainey. La stagione 2005 vede Valentino andare ancora contro tutti i pronostici, favorevoli alla Honda, dominando l'inizio della stagione. Si laurea campione del mondo con quattro gare di anticipo a Sepang, Malesia, il 25 settembre. Il 2 agosto Rossi firma un rinnovo annuale con la Yamaha anche per la stagione 2006, rifiutando una lauta offerta della Ducati. E' il più giovane pilota di sempre ad aver vinto il Mondiale in tutte le cilindrate, ed è il primo pilota della storia ad aver vinto il titolo della premier class (prima la 500 cc ora la MotoGP) con differenti costruttori al primo anno. Curiosita' Rossifumi, come era soprannominato all'inizio della sua carriera perchè simpatizzante di Norifumi Abe (pilota giapponese), usa sempre il numero 46 per la sua moto, nonostante abbia il diritto di usare il numero 1, riservato al campione in carica, perchè questo è il suo numero portafortuna, che usa da sempre. Nelle sue parole: "è bello averne uno personale, perchè sei riconoscibile. è bello pensare di cambiarlo solo con il numero 1. Lo scelsi dopo aver visto in tv una wild card giapponese andare come un razzo sull'acqua. Aveva quel numero e mi è rimasto impresso, e poi è il numero che aveva mio babbo quando vinse la prima gara con la Morbidelli 250 nel ' 79" Rossi gode di molte simpatie da parte degli appassionati di motociclismo, e il suo carattere estroverso e spensierato ha sicuramente avvicinato molte nuove persone allo sport del motociclismo. Famosi sono i siparietti con cui a fine gara celebra le vittorie, assieme ai membri del suo fan club che lo accompagnano lungo tutte le gare del mondiale (un gruppetto di amici "storici", ai quali Rossi stesso paga meta' del costo della trasferta per seguirlo). Si ricordano tra gli altri il giro di pista con a bordo una bambola gonfiabile, il giro d'onore dopo una vittoria in tenuta da spiaggia, la visita a un bagno dei commissari di pista dopo una vittoria, oppure la finta pattuglia dei vigili che lo multa dopo l'arrivo di una gara al Mugello per eccesso di velocita', o ancora la festa a Sepang nel 2005 coi fedelissimi del suo Fan Club vestiti da 7 nani (come i titoli vinti fino ad allora) per festeggiare il settimo mondiale della carriera. Appassionato anche delle quattroruote, Valentino ha provato a gareggiare in una prova del campionato mondiale Rally, nel 2002, a bordo di una Peugeot 206 WRC ha infatti preso parte al Rally d'Inghilterra pur senza concluderlo. Inoltre è diventato una presenza fissa al Rally di Monza e al memorial Bettega che si tiene ogni anno all'interno del Motorshow di Bologna. Proprio per la sua passione per le quattro ruote, sempre più spesso negli ultimi tempi si è parlato della possibilita' di un passaggio di Rossi alla Formula 1, alla guida della Ferrari, con la quale ha provato diverse volte sulle piste di Fiorano e del Mugello, con risultati notevoli per uno alle prime esperienze. Nonostante si sia parlato spesso di un suo passaggio alle quattro ruote, lo stesso Valentino ha preso la decisione, nel maggio del 2006, di rimanere nel mondo delle moto.
